Mignac : Location and Direction

Mignac is a little hamlet situated in Departement 86 which is known as Vienne.

The hamlet is very close to the boundary between 86 and 49 Maine-et-Loire, so we have easy access to the Loire valley. Loudun is the closest town however we are within half an hour of Saumur with its famous Cadre Noir Equestrian Centre and all the Caves of the Vineyards set into the tuffeau stone banks. The Wine Route takes visitors through  a multitude of surprising and delightful aspects of the Loire valley.

The hamlet is in the middle of the countryside where you are surrounded by local French families, however the garden is completely enclosed so the children have freedom to run around whilst the parents have the peace of mind to relax and enjoy the pool or read in the shade with a nice glass of wine. In Loudun there are several restaurants. We found the Ricardeau particularly good value. There are also pizza places and certainly if you want to eat in there is a good leclerc supermarket which sells lots of wonderful local produce. The melons in this region are particularly good as is the goats cheese.

Further afield in Fontevraud d’Abbaye which is 20 minutes away is a lovely restaurant where I did a cookery course. He has different menus at 25euros, 40euros and 55 euros or alternatively you can choose a la carte. It is very smart and lots of little extras are thrown in. Good for a special treat.

Directions

From either direction on N147 Saumers/Angers  to Poitiers arrive at Loudun

Take the D759 in the direction of Thouars.

Travel down this road for 3.3miles and then turn right into the D19. after .8 mile turn up the hill through Glenouze village D57.

After 1.1 mile turn right towards the Ferme Semechoux. After .4 mile turn right at the bus shelter and then first right into the Chemin des Vignes. \The house is on the right behind white gates.
